Our Verdict

The Phase Lite is a wind and waterproof jacket designed for moving fast in the hills. This 30 denier, 3-layer Gore-Tex jacket is surprisingly robust for such a lightweight shell. Trail runners can be confident about heading through rough woodland without the fear of tares or snags and Hikers will find the jacket robust enough to use with a heavy rucksack without the material blemishing.

The Phase Lite feels great next to the skin, and it doesn’t make that “crinkly” noise you often get with 3-layer jackets. There is enough room to accommodate a “puffy” inside the jacket, yet well fitted enough not to feel baggy.

The jacket does an excellent job of regulating heat; the two hand-warming pockets are backed with a mesh lining and elongate up the jacket right to the armpit, providing a lot of ventilation and helping move moisture away from the body.

It’s a fantastic jacket for trail runners if you know you are in for some foul weather. Still, I think the jacket’s strengths, lightweight, packable design, incredible breathability, and 28,000mm hydrostatic head make this the perfect outer shell for any long-distance walker/ Thru-Hiker.
